Parent Portal
Track your child's academic performance, view exam results, and stay connected with their learning journey.
Overview
The Parent Portal gives parents visibility into their children's academic progress on Testify. Parents can link to one or more student accounts, view exam results, see performance analytics, and access detailed PTM (Parent-Teacher Meeting) reports. The linking process is secure -- students generate a link code that parents use to establish the connection, ensuring only authorized parents can access student data.
How It Works
Student Generates a Link Code
Before a parent can link to a student account, the student must generate a link code:
- The student logs in to their Testify account.
- Navigates to Settings or Parent Access.
- Clicks Generate Link Code.
- A 6-character alphanumeric code is generated (e.g.,
A3F7B2). - The student shares this code with their parent.
The code is stored as a pending link. If the student already has an unused code, generating a new one replaces the previous one.
Parent Links to Student
- The parent logs in to their Testify account (parent role).
- Navigates to the Parent Portal or Link to Child.
- Enters the 6-character link code provided by the student.
- The system validates the code:
- Code must exist and be in "pending" status.
- Parent cannot link to their own account.
- Duplicate links are prevented.
- On success, the parent-student link is activated.
- The student's information appears in the parent's dashboard.
Viewing Linked Children
Once linked, parents can view all their connected students:
- Go to My Children in the parent dashboard.
- Each child card shows:
- Student name and email.
- Roll number and department (if set).
- Total exams completed.
- Average percentage across all submitted exams.
Parents can link to multiple children, and each child's data is displayed independently.
Viewing a Child's Report
For each linked child, parents can access a comprehensive report:
- Click on a child's card to open their detailed report.
- The report includes:
- Student profile -- name, email, roll number, department, phone.
- Exam history -- all submitted exams with title, marks obtained, total marks, percentage, correct/wrong/unattempted counts, duration, rank, and total participants.
- Performance trends -- how the student's scores have changed over time.
- Subject-wise breakdown -- performance by subject area.
This report mirrors the data available in PTM (Parent-Teacher Meeting) reports, providing a comprehensive view of the student's academic standing.
Unlinking a Child
If a parent needs to unlink from a student:
- Navigate to My Children.
- Click the unlink option on the child's card.
- Confirm the action. The link status is set to inactive, and the parent can no longer view that student's data.
The student can generate a new code if they want to re-link with a parent.
Key Features
Secure Linking Process
The link code system ensures security:
- Only students can generate link codes -- parents cannot initiate the link.
- Codes are 6-character random hex strings, making them difficult to guess.
- Pending codes can only be used once.
- Self-linking is prevented.
- Each parent-student pair can have only one active link.
Multi-Child Support
- Parents can link to multiple children from the same dashboard.
- Each child's data is displayed independently with their own stats and reports.
- Useful for parents with multiple children using the platform.
Comprehensive Report Data
The child report includes:
| Data Point | Description |
|---|---|
| Total Exams | Number of submitted exam attempts |
| Average Percentage | Mean score across all exams |
| Individual Exam Results | Marks, percentage, rank, duration per exam |
| Correct / Wrong / Unattempted | Answer breakdown per exam |
| Rank | Student's position among all exam participants |
| Duration | Time spent on each exam |
Privacy Controls
- Parents can only see data for students they are linked to.
- The verify-parent-link function is called for every data access, ensuring the link is still active.
- Students control the linking process by generating and sharing codes.
Tips and Best Practices
- Link early in the academic year so parents have visibility from the start.
- Review reports before PTM -- the data available mirrors what teachers discuss in parent-teacher meetings.
- Check regularly -- the dashboard updates in real time as new exam results come in.
- Link all children -- if you have multiple children on the platform, link them all from a single parent account.
- Use the average percentage as a quick health check, and dig into individual exams for detailed understanding.
For Teachers and Administrators
- Encourage students to generate link codes for their parents during the onboarding process.
- Parent reports reflect the same data shown in PTM reports, ensuring consistency.
- The parent-student link is organization-aware -- parents only see data within their linked student's context.
Related Features
- Online Exams -- exam results are the primary data source for parent reports.
- Classroom -- class context provides additional structure for reports.
- Certificates -- parents can view certificates earned by their children.
- Analytics -- detailed analytics underpin the parent report data.
